Charles Camisa,MD is board certified in dermatology and dermatological immunology. He received Bachelor of Science at Cornell University, MD at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, and Dermatology Residency training at NYU. He has been in academic and clinical practice of Dermatology at Ohio State University, Cleveland Clinic, and Riverchase Dermatology for over 30 years. He specializes in inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis, eczema, lichen planus, skin cancers including squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, and T-cell lymphoma of the skin. He also covers autoimmune diseases such as vitiligo, lupus of the skin, dermatomyositis, pemphigus, pemphigoid, and dermatitis herpetiformis. He has done research and written on many of these topics. He has published over 100 articles in professional specialty journals, 29 textbook chapters, and 3 textbooks on psoriasis. Dr Camisa founded and supervises the Psoriasis Treatment Centers at Riverchase Dermatology. He specializes in severe or complex cases which may require ultraviolet light phototherapy services with or without systemic medications such as methotrexate, cyclosporine, acitretin, and apremilast as well as the newer injectable biologic drugs including Enbrel, Humira, Remicade, Stelara, and others. All of these medications require safety monitoring and may have potentially serious side effects. Dr Camisa's work has been recognized by his peers. He was named Practitioner of the Year in 2005 and Excellence in Psoriasis Therapy in 2017 by the Florida Dermatological Society. He has been voted one of America's Top Doctors by CastleConnelly every year from 2004 to the present. Dr Camisa has been Affiliate Associate Professor at University of South Florida in the Dept of Dermatology since 2003 where he lectures to the residents and medical students. In 2015 he was named the Volunteer Faculty of the Year. He is a reviewer for many Dermatology journals and is on the Editorial Board of Cutis. In 1984, Dr Camisa discovered a new skin disease which now bears his name, Camisa Disease or Syndrome, also called Loricrin Keratoderma.
