Expert's Profile

For 40 years Mr. Dutill has been performing hydrology and environmental engineering nationwide. He has focused on wastewater, stormwater, flooding, sewers, septic systems, groundwater, drainage, runoff, hydrology, hydraulics, backups, drinking water, and air quality. He addresses these and other related issues as an expert witness and a general consultant. His cases have comprised federal and state cases, and have included damages ranging from approximately $25,000 to approaching $1 billion, with most between $100,000 to $5M. As indicated in feedback from attorneys on expert witness cases, some of the strengths of Heritage include understandable guidance, responsiveness, timeliness, communication, effective report writing, strong testimony (including on cross), efficiency, organization, and assistance with framing case issues.

Mr. Dutill has spent approximately 25% of his professional time providing expert witness services nationwide for 40 years. Approximately 50% of his expert witness services have been for defendants and 50% also for plaintiffs.

He has issued more than 120 expert reports, been deposed approximately 35 to 40 times, and testified in court (including jury and non-jury trials) approximately 25 to 30 times. Finally, he is available to consult on non-litigious matters.

Whether the issue is hydrology, stormwater management, flooding, drainage, runoff, sewer systems, sanitary sewage, wastewater treatment, backups, overflows, septic systems, surface water, groundwater, hydrogeology, erosion, grading, hydraulics, floodplains, or one of many others, the firm provides cost-effective solutions by working with clients, regulators, and the public in a personal yet professional way.
