Dr. Schultz was an instructor of State oil and gas regulators with TopCorp and was appointed to membership on the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. Formerly with ConocoPhillips as Principal Geomechanicist and the University of Nevada, Reno, as Foundation Professor of Geological Engineering and Geomechanics (now Emeritus), Dr. Schultz is a licensed Professional Geologist in the State of Texas (#11755). Primary work is on safety and reliability of Underground Natural Gas Storage facilities and oil-and-gas fields, including risk identification and mitigation, and regulator engagement. I have been retained in nationally prominent cases of natural gas related subsurface integrity and can opine in the areas of geology, geomechanics, and subsurface risking.

Richard A. Schultz is Principal and Owner of Orion Geomechanics LLC. Previously he was Senior Research Scientist with the Center for Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He focuses on geomechanics in Subsurface Integrity.

Primary work is on Underground Natural Gas Storage. Facets include: Technical consulting with midstream storage and pipeline companies; research and project design in risk identification and mitigation; advisory assignments with IOGCC; regulator training through TopCorp; and expert consultant/expert witness for litigation.

Previously he was Principal Geomechanicist with ConocoPhillips where he focused on the characterization and geomechanics of reservoir and overburden sequences with applications to subsurface containment assurance, deepwater assets, heavy-oil fields, and geodetic monitoring of oil and gas fields throughout the global asset portfolio and field life-cycle.

Prior to this Dr. Schultz served on the faculty of the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), culminating as Foundation Professor of Geological Engineering and Geomechanics, Emeritus.
