Expert Witness Testimony. Environmental & Occupational Health. Chemical & Biological Exposures. Toxicology & Epidemiology. Health Risks & Disease Causation. Former Leading Environmental Health Scientist, Battelle Memorial Institute. Fellow, American College of Forensic Examiners, Division of Toxicology. Board Certified. Nationwide Practice.
Dr. Wayne Roth-Nelson is the principal of TOXIC TORT SCIENCE and founder of Risk Science & Law Specialty Group (Society for Risk Analysis). His forensic career spans 16 years, 27 states, and 57 cases of civil litigation for plaintiffs and defendants.

Previously, he was a leading environmental and occupational health researcher and manager at Battelle Memorial Institute and Science Applications International Corporation. Other affiliations included GE Center for Advanced Studies and Westinghouse Urban Systems. His client organizations included the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, U.S. EPA, Air Force Occupational and Environmental Health Laboratories, and Department of Energy Environmental Restoration Division.

Dr. Roth-Nelson worked over three decades consulting in the R & D community in the environmental health sciences, health risk assessment, hazardous waste management, and regulatory compliance. Now he serves nationwide as toxic tort consultant and expert witness while developing quantitative evidence of toxic exposures, absorbed doses, and increased health risks or disease causation. He works independently or teams with colleagues to apply scientific disciplines needed for effective case litigation. His main disciplines are applied toxicology and epidemiology, which encompass the physical, chemical and biological sciences.

Dr. Roth-Nelson provided testimony by deposition and in state and federal trial courts. Half of all cases involved Sick Buildings with workers, shoppers and residents exposed to molds and bacteria, paint and metal fumes, solvent and fuel vapors, and combustion gases. Four cases involved large industrial or agricultural operations that affected entire communities: abandoned petroleum refinery, ball bearing manufacturing, helicopter pesticide spraying, and corn ethanol production.

He authored Explaining Toxic Chemical Risk in the Courtroom: Authority, Storytelling, and Science, Chapter 13 in Expert Witnessing: Explaining and Understanding Science (CRC Press, 1999); also Risk Evidence in Toxic Torts, The Environmental Lawyer 2(2):404-443 (American Bar Association, 1996). His writing is cited by the American Bar Association, Harvard Law School, and the Florida Supreme Court.

His experience with toxic agents includes: Hydrocarbon Fuels, Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), Organic Solvents, Gases and Fumes, Particulates and Aerosols, Heavy Metals, Acids and Alkalis, Radionuclides, Organophosphate and Carbamate Pesticides, Paints and Coatings, Molds and Bacteria.
